‘Accident Free Day’, unfortunately was not accident free.

The Telangana State Government decided to observe ‘Accident Free Day’ on 31st January 2017 by cautioning people to follow traffic rules and by taking all precautions to avoid mishaps. Appeals for this important event came from the State Governor, Senior Police Officers and through many roadside posters.
It was highlighted that Road Safety has become a matter of serious concern as India is losing 1,50,000 precious human lives every year. In Telangana; every day about 20 persons die in 60 road accidents amounting to the loss of over 7,000 precious lives annually. It is said that pedestrians and two-wheelers account for 50 percent of total deaths.
I presume the appeal of the Government has reached the entire State but unfortunately within the Twin Cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad there have been 4 road deaths and several accidents resulting in injuries on this ‘Accident Free Day’. I do not know the status of accidents in rest of Telangana State, though I wish there were none.
To overcome such a serious road safety situation I think senseless, irresponsible and illiterate drivers and pedestrians should be identified and educated or punished severely. Police must act very tough.
